Sebaceous cyst is another prominent cause of bumps on head. It is a closed sac that develops under the skin and is filled with an oily or cheese-like material. Sebaceous cyst mostly arise from swollen hair follicles. Physical injury may trigger the onset of such a cyst formation. Surgical treatment is commonly required to get rid of it.
Hives, which is a raised itchy area of skin, may appear on the head and neck. It is one of the results of skin allergy. The medical condition which involves inflammation or infection of one or more hair follicles is known as folliculitis. It may be a possible cause of lumps on head. The part of your scalp which is not covered by hair may suffer from cancer, which itself appears as a lump. There are still many other causes of bumps on head. They include chickenpox, shingles, etc.
Treatment for Lumps on Head
There are several home remedies that you can try to cure bumps on head and neck before visiting a doctor. To reduce itching and inflammation, apply lavender oil on the lumps. Consult an aromatherapist to learn about the quantity for usage. You may use tea tree, rosemary and neem oil for the same purpose. They are antibacterial, soothing and healing in nature. You may apply jojoba oil to rehydrate the skin on your head. It resembles the natural sebum of your skin and accelerates the process of healing of the sore lumps on head.
There are various nonprescription remedies available for treating bumps on head. They are mainly in the form of shampoos which contain ketoconazole, ciclopirox, tar, selenium sulfide, salicylic acid and zinc pyrithione. Follow the instructions given on its pack. You can also take over-the-counter antihistamines to treat inflammation and swelling of the lumps on head. Try to keep your skin on the head always well moisturized.
The above suggested treatment measures may or may not provide you relief from lumps on head. Even if they do, visit a dermatologist to evaluate the condition and determine the exact cause of formation of bumps on head. Strictly follow all the prescriptions and directions given by the doctor. Also, follow a healthy diet and drink plenty of water to speed up the process of treatment.
