Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is cancer that originates in or around the breast. While breast cancer can conceivably occur anywhere within the breast tissue, the most likely points of origin for breast cancer include the lobules (the glands that produce milk) or the ducts that transport milk to the nipple. As most forms of breast cancer are estrogen dependent, treatment often involves drugs that prevent estrogen from binding to breast tissue.
Metastatic Cancer
Metastatic cancer is cancer that has spread beyond its original point of origin and now inhabits other areas of the body as well. Clearly an undesirable outcome, metastatic cancer dramatically increases the complexity of treatment, as cancer is far more containable when localized to one region of the body. According to the American Cancer Society, metastatic cancer is deemed local, regional, or distant depending on how far it has spread from the source.
Metastatic Cancer Effects
A common location for breast cancer metastasis is to the bones of the body. Symptoms of this include localized and chronic pain in and around the bones of the affected area. When this occurs, the integrity of the affected bone will be compromised, making it far more susceptible to fractures and other related injuries.
