Having cancer, such as breast cancer, is a traumatic experience. From the diagnosis to the treatments that can last for months, a breast cancer patient has a lot of emotional and physical changes to get accustomed to. Once treatment is over, there are more changes to get used to such as schedule changes, emotional changes, physical acceptance and more.

Follow-Up Appointments
Once treatment for breast cancer is over, it is important to get regular follow-up examinations. According to National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Center (NBOCC), depending on the case, the doctor will make an individualized follow-up schedule. Follow-up for recovered breast cancer patients includes physical exams and mammograms. Follow-up appointments also allow for patients to ask questions and to voice their concerns.
Diet
Everyone should eat healthy for the best chance at a long and healthy life. That being said, while there is no specific diet that recovered breast cancer patients should follow, NBOCC recommends that breast cancer survivors should eat a healthy, balanced diet. They should concentrate on eating fresh foods as much as possible and making sure they are eating the correct portions from the five main food groups to keep their BMI in check.
Exercise
Since fatigue is one of the physical effects of breast cancer, and exercise is proven to help boost energy levels, it is recommended that people start a regular exercise routine after breast cancer. Exercising at least five times a week can reduce the risk of recurrence of breast cancer, NBOCC states. In addition, exercise can help boost a person's mood and many patients feel very down after breast cancer treatment.
Emotions
There can be a huge range of feelings and emotions after breast cancer treatment is over. It affects everyone differently. Survivors can feel relieved, happy and joyous or they can feel scared, alone and depressed. According to Health.com, all of these feelings are normal. Learning to live life as a survivor is a big transition that patients need to be prepared for. Often times, breast cancer patients are expected to just go back to normal after treatment is over, but for some this is very hard.
Fear
A lot of recovered breast cancer patients have anxiety and fear over recurrence. According to NBOCC it is perfectly normal for patients to either feel comforted with regular follow-up appointments with their doctor, or to feel extreme fear and anxiety about follow-up appointments.
