The scientific evidence supporting herbal treatment of breast cancer is shaky at best, though there are individuals who swear by these more "natural" remedies. If tried, herbal treatments should be shared with the patient's physician--to make sure that these herbal supplements don't interact harmfully with other medications that the patient might be using. With the approval of a physician who knows one's case, however, an herbal treatment for breast cancer could be a wise choice.

A host of herbal "solutions" exist for dealing with breast cancer prevention, but as a treatment, options are more limited. The herb Black Cohosh is recommended by herbalists as effective in stopping the spread of breast cancer completely. Breast cancer patients are further encouraged to eat lots of broccoli, absolutely avoid foods grown with hormones (like meats and dairy products), drink green tea, avoid processed food, eat blueberries, avoid fried foods, eat cod liver, sleep well, exercise regularly, and switch to non-chemical solutions when it comes to fertilizers, house cleaning supplies, and pesticides. Typically, such herbal treatment is subsidized by a call for a more "spiritual" life (characterized by readings, music, time spent in nature, and meditation).

According to herbalists, broccoli is the best vegetable for cancer prevention and treatment. The alleged benefits of Black Cohosh have already been discussed. Green tea is said to delay tumor growth and even induce the death of breast cancer cells. Blueberries are helpful as they provide antioxidants, and chemical-laden pesticides, fertilizers, and house cleaning supplies are said to fill your body with "heavy metals" harmful to cancer patients.

Most herbal remedies and "natural" treatments for breast cancer have not been vigorously tested clinically--which isn't to say that they won't work, just that their efficacy hasn't been scientifically proven in a lab. Tight regulations on quality when it comes to such products don't yet exist, so caution is always encouraged. It's a good idea to constantly consult with one's physician when dealing with breast cancer herbal treatment.
