Symptoms of Breast Cancer with Bone Metastasis

Most of us are quite familiar with the regular symptoms of breast cancer, such as the presence of a lump within the tissue in or around the breast or chest, a discharge from one of the nipples, a change in the feel and look of the breast or chest and a discoloration of the skin in the affected area of the body. But when this form of cancer has metastasized into the bones, it brings with it another series of potential symptoms.

Pain

The most common symptom of breast cancer with bone metastasis will involve some level of pain and discomfort within the bone, according to the Mayo Clinic. Generally, this pain will be felt within the bones of the arms or legs, but may arise in any bone of the body.

Swelling

Sometimes, breast cancer with bone metastasis will prompt a swelling or inflammation in the joints, namely when the cancer has spread to any bone near a joint. This swelling may also be accompanied by a certain amount of tenderness to the affected area.

Fever

Many people who have breast cancer with bone metastasis may begin to suffer from the symptom of a fever. This fever may run anywhere from mild to severe, depending on the way in which your body reacts to the cancer metastasis.

Bone Weakness

Another fairly common symptom of breast cancer with bone metastasis is a weakness within the affected bone. This may lead to a greater susceptibility to breaks and fractures.

Fatigue

As with almost any form of cancer, breast cancer with bone metastasis can cause you to become fairly fatigued or exhausted, because of the toll the cancer is taking on your body.

Anemia

Because the cancer has metastasized into the bone, you may also discover you have become anemic, due to the affect the cancer has on the marrow.
